  • July 2019 - Awarded a 1 year grant Faculty Research and Creative Activities Award to investigate In-Motion Wireless Power Transfer for Electric Vehicles

  • January 2019 - Awarded a 1 year grant from the Michigan Department of Transportation to develop an autonomous electric shuttle for the Battle Creek VA Hospital. It is a collaboration with Pratt & Miller (lead), Robotic Research, University of Michigan, Kevadiya, and Comet Mobility. 

  • December 2018 - Awarded a 2 year grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to research mobility and energy improvements from vehicle and traffic control. It is a collaboration with Colorado State University (lead), the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the city of Fort Collins, the city of Denver, and the clean cities coalition.

  • July 2018 - The MCO Lab was awarded an NVIDIA GPU Grant to investigate autonomous vehicle control and fuel economy.

Dr. Zachary D. Asher is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Western Michigan University. His research interests are focused on mathematical modeling, control, and optimization of mechanical systems as well as engineering education. He earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University in May 2018, a M.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in 2012, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University in May 2009. He also worked full time in engineering industry from 2009 to 2015.
